Making a Difference - the starfish story

Making a Difference - the starfish story

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied,

“Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf.

Then, smiling at the man, he said…I made a difference for that one.”

Do you have a sticky Mind?

Do you have a sticky Mind?
A point to Notice and Find
Although just see if you but Can
Be like a Non-Stick Frying Pan

Forget the many many Story's
Of your many Hopes and Glory's

The Fears and possible Tears
That may await in coming Years

Demons haunting your Thoughts
Every imagined outcome, all Sorts
Mind racing for that Distraction
Of Aversion and Attraction

But don't also forget Ignorance
The Cock, Pig and Snake's Dance
Emotions not to be keep on Leash
Seeing they are just but a Niche

Find Peace that naturally Abides
Before this life inevitably Subsides
Gain confidence in the Here 'n Now
To Rupa, Wiseman, Our mind we do Bow

Remaining, Unaltered and Non-Obtaining
Without ego conniving 'n Straining
Rather than Thinking, Wanting 'n Doing
That death bed is rapidly Ensuing !

But Summoning Forth the Wisdom
Realizing all Beings like you are Wholesome
King, boatman or shepherd will you Be

Three Courageous types can you Foresee?
Ego most Go!

Kids poetry

Kids poetry

Do you Wish like a Fish to be not in a Dish
Or Dream like a Bream that can be Seen
Swimming Free do you See such Pleasantry

Do you Roll in a Bog like a Hog or Dog
Race a Course like a Horse of Course
Eat Hunny like a Bunny so Funny

Have a Habbit like a Rabbit to 'Nab' it
Can Laugh with the Calf of a Giraffe
To be Gallant like an Elephant be Triumphant

But have you Sat like a Cat on his Mat!
Hear them purr the mani mantra
This is their form of speech tantra

We all want to be Happy
From life in a Nappy
Through to old age sickness 'n Death
Grasping for that last Breath

When the heart is Open
Present moment is more than enough.
When the heart is Closed,
Even soft words can seem Tough
Unawareness disclosed
Mind to be Awoken
So softly spoken
Ego most Go!

Die Sigh t'end is Nigh !

Die Sigh t'end is Nigh !

Maybe this night I might Die,
Last out breath a great big Sigh,
Above my head my Precious Lama,
Release from this Ocean of Samsara

The fact that I did awake
Should really demonstrate
In my dreams he did feature
Blessings of my Guru Teacher

Thinking, Wanting, Doing...

Thinking, Wanting, Doing...

Ordinary Mind
You will always nearly Find
Is always Thinking, Wanting and Doing

When blinkered for the Ensuing
Of its soon impending End
New body we Lend

Off again ego
In Samsara endless Show
For we'll never realize we're Crazier

Day by day Year by Year but Lazier
Busier and busier life upon life
For so much strife

Ordinary thinking mind Keeping us so blind

Ordinary thinking mind Keeping us so blind

Ordinary thinking mind
Keeping us so blind
        From true Awareness
        So rare to Witness
When did it start
Or even split apart
        Like the Big Bang
        An almighty clang
Matter, antimatter remnants
Insects animals to plants
        From such a Void
        Attraction or Annoyed
Entanglements arose
Resulting in my prose!

        Set up by conceptuality
        Having no true reality
Ordinary thinking mind

Keeping us so blind
        From true Awareness
        So rare to Witness
When did it start
Or even split apart
        Like the Big Bang
        An almighty clang
Matter, antimatter remnants
Insects, animals and plants
        From such a Void
        We Attract, Ignore or Avoid
Entanglements arose
Resulting in your nose!

Dear Son & Daughter

Dear Son & Daughter
Dear son & daughter, I hope you are both well
You make me feel proud, and still very swell
This is a poem I’ve made especially for you
Prompted by memories of times together, that flood through
Bring happiness to my mind, but also make me feel blue
Reminders of cherished moments I longed to repeat
Before they get lost and with age, prone to delete
But I know that time steals away this chance
And for you, too, will soon repeat life’s dance
Feeling deprived of times that cannot be brought
But things change and know they cannot be caught
For I know we can all be together again one day
We are all linked by life’s action in some way
Given a fair wind I know you always could & should
Be the best of life’s children, knowing that you are both very good!

Aware of the awareness?

Aware of the awareness?

Awareness made of nowness

Thoughts and emotions less

than the main mind we're told

Will we realize before we get old?

This truth will maybe then unfold

In the next bardo have we're told

A few more rare precious chances

Of life 'n death's sacred dances!

Stable Abiding

Looking for a stable ground
knowing it can't really be found
From nowness distracted dreams
anything of attracted themes
The rug will be pulled from under
but even though that's plain I blunder
Time lost in ignorance, a diversion
of Attachment and Aversion
Ordinary mind so fickle
the ego's play and tickle
So cunning, slippery and tricky
judging, condemning, very picky
Seeking a happiness from outside
can't sit contented and just abide

Days of Drama & Karma

A glorious day does unfold
The future not now to be told
God's plan, fate or Karma
It's just part of life's drama
If we knew the outcome
The prospect would be no fun
The Universe in a state of flux
Thro’ Interdependence it trucks
Very neatly into an overall plan
Will he find a woman she a man?

Snaky ego a slither

There lying on towpath
fear jumped to show
Made you little laugh
simile for our ego
Just a shoe lace
not that slithering snake
Almost heart did race
funny what to make
In mind's hectic pace

Is that rightly so ...?

is that rightly so
if it pleases thy ego
but for there don't go I
but helps us get by
in this shared delusion
not a just collusion
but there is this force
we follow blindly of course
it doesn't exist except
we have to accept
relative and absolute truth
being you own sleuth
our obstacle is labelling
fixation robbing meddling
as a dream controller
we let it smoulder
the watcher must go!
cast a spell on the ego!

Is that rightly so
If it pleases thy ego
For there don't go I
But helps us get by
Hurling your diatribe
Sugary but to abide
Or maybe sycophantic
Can be quite pedantic
In this shared delusion
Is it just a collusion
But there is this force
We follow blindly of course
It doesn't exist except
We have to really accept
Relative and absolute truth
Being you own sleuth
Our obstacle is labelling
Blinding and a disabling
And fixation robbing us
In this samsaric fuss
As a dream controller
We let it simmer and smoulder
The watcher must go!
Cast a spell on the ego!
